This list shows all the Control Panels on the computer, plus a description of all the things they can do. Double clicking on any of the items in the list will open the Control Panel that lets you set that option. Hold down the ‚åò key to make Control Commander quit when you open a Control Panel, or set it to do this automatically in the preferences dialog.
You can change the Font and text size of the list by using the Font and Styles Menus. Alter the color scheme with the Color Schemes Dialog.
There are several methods that make it easy to find things in the list:
Type a letter on the keyboard, or click on a "Keyboard Button" to scroll the list so that choices that start with that letter are visible.
The Find dialog, or the Find Button and the Find Box, let you limit the items in the list to just those that contain a particular word.
The Keywords popup menu lets you limit the items in the list to logically related groupings; such as everything that has anything to do with sound, or all the choices that can affect modem settings.
The Find Button and The Find Box:
Pushing the Find Button will limit the number of visible items to just those that contain the text in the Find Box. To enter text into the Find Box click inside the box with the mouse to select it, and type in some text. The figure shows a selected Find Box, note the blue ring around it, with the text "The Find Box" already typed in.
You can also use the Find Dialog to find things, it behaves exactly like the Find Box.
Typing a return is equivalent to pushing the find button.
The Find All Button:
If you have limited the number of items in the commands list by using either Find or the Keywords popup menu, pushing the Find All button will display everything again.
The Keywords Popup Menu:
Selecting an item from the keywords popup menu will cause the list to display just those items that have something to do with the keyword you have selected. Choosing the word "Keywords" from the menu will show all the possible items in the list.
The Discloser:
The discloser is the little bluish triangle found in the top right corner of the Control Commander window. Clicking on it will show or hide the keyboard buttons.
The Keyboard Buttons:
The keyboard buttons do the same thing as typing a letter on the keyboard; they scroll the list so that items that start with the selected letter are visible. Push the "#" button to see all the choices that start with a number. Push the "+" button to see anything that is alphabetized after the letter z. The Preference settings will affect how this works.
The Help Button:
Displays the Help Dialog.
The Registration Placard:
Shows whether a copy Control Commander is registered. The blank placard in the figure shows that the developers register their shareware.
The Control Panel Placard:
Shows the name of the Control Panel that will open if the current selection from the commands list is double-clicked. In the figure, the Placard shows that the selected item belongs to the "Appearance" Control panel.
Checks whether the document is consistent with a Control Panel description file. The colors used in displaying results can be set with the "Color Schemes" dialog.
The Message Box:
Displays the results of syntax checks. You can also use it as a temporary home for bits of text. See the section on "Checking Your Work" for a description of all the messages.
The Tools Button:
Opens the Text Utilities dialog. Hold down the option key while clicking on it to remove all unavailable Control Panels from your document.
The Help Button:
Opens the text Help dialog.
The Discloser:
The discloser is the little bluish triangle found to the left of the horizontal scrollbar. Click on it to turn on automatic line wrapping.
